what happens when you take a sip of hot coffee or tea with a piece of bubblegum in your mouth. and what happens to bubblegum when you drink something really cold. And how cold ice water feels if you’ve just had a peppermint. And how the stuff they use to make peppermints feel cool in your mouth is the same stuff they put in yogi sip apple to make it feel cold when you drink it. Which turned into an argument about whether or not yogi sip apple tastes like mint or not (me against Damien for). And how you can’t find Velamints anywhere anymore and how much I miss them. And then we pulled into our driveway and the conversation changed to more mundane stuff like whether or not he’s going to pack his school bag for tomorrow the way I have been telling him to… or not.
i found this on terri’s page (check my sidebar for her link)- and since she got some stunning results i decided to try it myself. so according to http://www.myheritage.com/ (you will have to register, but it’s one helluvan ego boost!)… i have a resemblance to the following people: 70% melanie griffith, 66% yasmine bleeth, 60% greta garbo, 59% edith piaf, 58% susan sarandon, 57% marilyn monroe. damien apparently resembles: jon bon jovi 53%, heath ledger 45%… and salma hayek! clearly their male celebrity database is a little short, but i have no IDEA how salma got in there!
For those who’ve been reading for a while and remember him, bully for you. For those who haven’t met him, I refer to him as Nephew N and he is now 19 months old. He was born with Radial Renal Syndrome. It’s genetic and it can affect the “sufferer’s” radius (the big bone in the lower arm), thumbs, heart, ears, kidneys… or all of the above! His outer ears have been affected- but not drastically, he is very far sighted due to water on the brain, which is now relieved with a shunt implanted before he was one. His hands work fine- but his arms are short and he has no thumbs. His shoulders are also differently shaped. He is walking and he has started talking- he is very clever and LOVES books, and he uses his feet when his hands can’t reach! More later…
This is my first… um… contribution to the Flash Fiction Friday project that can be found on purgatorian.blogspot. I plan on making it a weekly thing. His own writing is fascinating, and you can check out the FFF rules on his page.
Remember? How could I forget? I recall it specifically because the…
…dragonlings were jumpy and nervous all morning. While they’ll normally take a finger off as fast as blink- they were shying away from shadows! Just when I was wondering if my second brood of dragonlings would be completely undeliverable due to their sudden display of cowardice; my mind was instantly cleared of any concern for customers who were expecting to take delivery of their (already paid for and very expensive) dragonlings because just then- I caught sight of “them”. Them. I had dismissed as legend the stories of these huge, vicious, fire breathing, and supposedly intelligent creatures that were right then chewing their way through my eco-dome! And since the dragonlings are notoriously un-co-operative (despite their excellent defense capabilities… once properly trained of course) I wondered how I was going to protect my investment- a breeding colony is exceptionally difficult to establish and my little business had only just started turning a profit! But they don’t breathe fire and although extraordinarily vicious, at a little over knee-height, they’re not very big. Never mind that I had just that morning worn out my last pair of hamster fluff lined, chain mail reinforced, horse hide safety gloves. And now- out of the blue- I had this gigantic flight of vampire mice fast descending on my dragonling colony and nothing to protect myself with!
Just organise an international cricket match at Supersport Park- one day game or test match- doesn’t matter. Don’t believe me… if I can I’ll track down the statistics to prove it!
