Lulu and I used to be neighbours, and we were neighbours for probably 2 years before we suddenly bonded one afternoon over Black Label, cigarettes and single mommy-dom… whilst our boys bonded over LEGO and animated movies! We spent that entire first weekend together, and thereafter we made regular plans to visit with each other.
That was easily 10 years ago!
We used to get together over shared suppers and rented movies, and we’d spend hours commiserating over the lack of decent men on the planet whilst watching movies we wouldn’t usually rent because our boys couldn’t watch them with us. Yes- we are those kinds of moms- we watch movies with our kidlets and feel bad when we rent something that means they have to sit in the bedroom whilst we watch. So our boys having each other to play LEGO with, and draw with, meant we could watch age-restricted movies together. Our shared suppers included things like giant home-made sub sandwiches and home-made vetkoek! And whilst Lulu taught me to make toad-in-a-hole, I taught her to go shopping in her slippers with me, heh heh!
She’s an animal lover of note and her menagerie currently includes goldfish, a koi, a giant cat named Thomas and two dogs…
And excitement reigns right now because she’s just moved into a house! A whole house to herself! With a garden and a garage and a fireplace and an awesome oven and space for the dogs and a shower and and and…!!! This house is the kind of thing she and I used to fantasise about when we visited together.
I miss you Lulu- lots- and I do hope I’m going to see you in April!!!
