I pinched this from a bit of this a bit of that, since I could use some blog fodder!
- What is your current fashion obsession?
I honestly cannot think of one… unless you count my never ending love of wedding dresses? I adore the bohemian style of dress, tassels, fringe, lace, beads, the soft outlines are so pretty and feminine.
- What are you wearing today?
Jeans and a long sleeve grey T-shirt
As it is pretty short and curly I’ve just got an Alice-band in.
- Do you nap a lot?
Not typically. I battle to stay asleep in the daytime unless I am absolutely exhausted.
- Why is today special?
I can’t think of any particular reason. My Glugster is home, which I love, but he’s not well so it’s not ideal.
- What would you like to learn to do?
I finally knuckled down and I am learning to crochet! It has been a long time since I tackled a new hobby and I am rather enjoying this!
- What’s for dinner today? Chicken burgers!! We aren’t making the patties or the buns, but we’re making our own burgers.
- What are you listening to right now?
The TV is on, as usual, the movie “Open Season” is showing. I am also listening for Guide Dog puppy-in-training, Nimble’s, collar. She’s asleep now, but if she moves and I can’t see her I have to listen for her so I can make sure she’s not up to mischief.
- What is your favorite weather?
Winter! I love the cold! It’s the shortest season, but I revel in it.
- What’s the last thing you bought?
I got some baking supplies, some wool, and some groceries yesterday. Nothing terribly exciting, but I do love any kind of shopping.
- What are your essentials when traveling?
I like to have a pillow so I can nap, and I like to buy one or two of those ridiculous magazines like Hello or People. It’s the only time I buy them.
- What’s your style?
I don’t think I have one… Right now I am so badly overweight that I have very little in my closet that fits me, and I refuse to buy new clothing while I look like this.
- What is your most challenging goal right now?
I have a few, but putting money aside as savings is a big one. I have absolutely no self-control. 🙁
- If you could have a house totally paid for, fully furnished, anywhere in the world, where would you like it to be?
Fourways! 😀 Yes really! It would be closer to my Glugsters’s work, closer to the knucklehead, closer to my baking supply shops and closer to SA Guide Dogs!
- Favourite vacation spot?
I like heading to the Cape on holiday.
- Name the things you cannot live without?
My Glugster, my son, my dogs, my cats, my phone, ice cold Coke.
- How was your childhood?
Big family Christmases, Easters, birthdays, holidays, any special day warranted a celebration. It was torture… 😛
- What would you like to have in your hands right now?
A tall glass of Coke Zero with ice. Ooh, maybe a KFC Oreo Krusher! No! Fresh orange juice with pulp and a sprinkle of salt!
- What are you most excited for?
Ummm… Our 5th anniversary is coming, and I am hoping to be able to have a party for my Glugster’s 40th birthday, and the knucklehead will qualify as a Dive Instructor by the end of the year!
- If you could go anywhere in the world for the next hour, where would you go?
Just an hour? I’d go to see my parents! I miss them terribly!
- Which countries have you visited?
I have only once left South Africa, and that was on holiday to Oz to visit my dearest friend.
The more I use it, the more I dislike it.
For a while I thought it was social media in general that I can’t stand anymore, but I actually still enjoy Twitter and Instagram. WhatsApp has become a communication tool rather than a form of social media. And even though I blog far less than I used to, I still enjoy that too.
I also work in social media – Facebook included – and this I enjoy too. Probably because it’s not personal…
My growing distaste of Facebook has nothing to do with the fact that my feed defaults to “Top Stories” no matter how many times I change it to “Most Recent” (get over it people, it’s not going to change no matter how many times you share a protest-slash-petition).
I try to keep the number of Facebook friends I have under 200, and I limit my acceptance of friend requests to people I actually speak to on a fairly regular basis.
My irritation also has nothing to do with the games people play. I just reject the request and block the game. Problem solved.
Even the click bait, bad grammar, and “vaguebooking” isn’t what has put me off.
What I have come to hate is that as much as people share on Facebook, they don’t talk to each other.

When I was pregnant with my knucklehead, my mommy darling taught me a few crochet stitches and I crocheted pretty edges on my baby boy’s receiving blankets. I never crocheted again, though I have no idea why.
I kept finding pretty patterns on Pinterest, and I found a pattern book for Amigurumi animals and I decided I had to learn to crochet properly so I could follow the patterns.
My first attempt at a granny square… This and several afterwards were round every time!
Trying different stitches while learning to manage my tension and watching YouTube tutorials…
Getting better at Granny Squares…
Another kind of stitch I’m practising
Then I gave up on granny squares for a while and started doing circles. That definitely helped me get better at the tension and the proper grip on my wool and my hook…
And then I made a few more granny squares and what do you know – they’re square!
The hand cramps might just kill me though…
Its actually a little ridiculous, just how excited I am about this!
I know I’m a project person though, so whilst I will continue doing it I won’t be excited about it for too long…
For now, I’m enjoying it.
For a long time now, I’ve been taking my empty egg boxes and the cardboard tubes from my paper towels to a nursery school up the road from me. And I keep tins and glass jars for my MIL who does crafty things with the tins and fills the jars with jams, pickles and preserves.
I felt better for not throwing them away, but that was as much recycling as I did. I had Pinterest dreams of having the colour coded bins, and a compost heap (which is a little odd since I don’t do any gardening), and a chute from inside my kitchen straight into a recycling bin, but I never got around to actually doing any of it.
And then our suburb’s resident’s association got a whole bunch of us to commit to the Pikitup “separation at source” recycling programme, and they came around and dropped off two kinds of bags – one for paper and the other for tins, glass, and plastic.
The bags are put out the day before our usual Pikitup collection and they leave new bags for the next week’s collection.
With just me and my Glugster in the house, and giving to the nursery school and to my MIL, our recycling bags are never really full, but I’m happier for not throwing it in the bin!
Do you recycle?
