My birthday is a week away, so juuust in case anyone is interested – I do have a wishlist…
And since I’m turning 40 *snigger* it is a special occasion! 😛
I have a few long-ass wishlists on Craftsy, Yuppiechef, and Exclus1ve Books, for courses, baking equipment, and books, so vouchers are always a winner!
Especially this one!
Grown-up coloring books and snazzy crayons or fine liners will score you MAJOR brownie points, as will a bottle or six of dry bubbly, although that goes without saying…
I’m learning to be a hooker too, so wool and crochet hooks would be grand!
AND I have FINALLY started collecting the Schleich horses (I already have the Appaloosa foal)! The detail is incredible, each one is hand painted so no two are exactly alike! Click through and see!
HAPPY ALMOST-BIRTHDAY TO ME!
I was having a giggle at my Instagram feed, which is all dogs, cats, and #MamaLove selfies with my knucklehead, with the occasional crocheted granny square thrown in!
I thought I’d see what was on my phone that isn’t my dogs or crochet…
Ummm… a close-up of my right eye…!?
A sister selfie!!!
My daddy darling had some help blowing his candles out, from my nephew L 😀
Me and my Glugs at the GDA ball
A selfie of moi – after my sister straightened my hair for me
I did it too – traded Stickeez!
A “Hand Man”!
My mommy darling’s recipe book… Brings back SO many memories!
My sister C has a pooch all of her own! This is Missy!
Our Magic cat…
Our Penny… She’s a total daddy’s girl!
I pinched this from a bit of this a bit of that, since I could use some blog fodder!
- What is your current fashion obsession?
I honestly cannot think of one… unless you count my never ending love of wedding dresses? I adore the bohemian style of dress, tassels, fringe, lace, beads, the soft outlines are so pretty and feminine.
- What are you wearing today?
Jeans and a long sleeve grey T-shirt
As it is pretty short and curly I’ve just got an Alice-band in.
- Do you nap a lot?
Not typically. I battle to stay asleep in the daytime unless I am absolutely exhausted.
- Why is today special?
I can’t think of any particular reason. My Glugster is home, which I love, but he’s not well so it’s not ideal.
- What would you like to learn to do?
I finally knuckled down and I am learning to crochet! It has been a long time since I tackled a new hobby and I am rather enjoying this!
- What’s for dinner today? Chicken burgers!! We aren’t making the patties or the buns, but we’re making our own burgers.
- What are you listening to right now?
The TV is on, as usual, the movie “Open Season” is showing. I am also listening for Guide Dog puppy-in-training, Nimble’s, collar. She’s asleep now, but if she moves and I can’t see her I have to listen for her so I can make sure she’s not up to mischief.
- What is your favorite weather?
Winter! I love the cold! It’s the shortest season, but I revel in it.
- What’s the last thing you bought?
I got some baking supplies, some wool, and some groceries yesterday. Nothing terribly exciting, but I do love any kind of shopping.
- What are your essentials when traveling?
I like to have a pillow so I can nap, and I like to buy one or two of those ridiculous magazines like Hello or People. It’s the only time I buy them.
- What’s your style?
I don’t think I have one… Right now I am so badly overweight that I have very little in my closet that fits me, and I refuse to buy new clothing while I look like this.
- What is your most challenging goal right now?
I have a few, but putting money aside as savings is a big one. I have absolutely no self-control. 🙁
- If you could have a house totally paid for, fully furnished, anywhere in the world, where would you like it to be?
Fourways! 😀 Yes really! It would be closer to my Glugsters’s work, closer to the knucklehead, closer to my baking supply shops and closer to SA Guide Dogs!
- Favourite vacation spot?
I like heading to the Cape on holiday.
- Name the things you cannot live without?
My Glugster, my son, my dogs, my cats, my phone, ice cold Coke.
- How was your childhood?
Big family Christmases, Easters, birthdays, holidays, any special day warranted a celebration. It was torture… 😛
- What would you like to have in your hands right now?
A tall glass of Coke Zero with ice. Ooh, maybe a KFC Oreo Krusher! No! Fresh orange juice with pulp and a sprinkle of salt!
- What are you most excited for?
Ummm… Our 5th anniversary is coming, and I am hoping to be able to have a party for my Glugster’s 40th birthday, and the knucklehead will qualify as a Dive Instructor by the end of the year!
- If you could go anywhere in the world for the next hour, where would you go?
Just an hour? I’d go to see my parents! I miss them terribly!
- Which countries have you visited?
I have only once left South Africa, and that was on holiday to Oz to visit my dearest friend.
When I was pregnant with my knucklehead, my mommy darling taught me a few crochet stitches and I crocheted pretty edges on my baby boy’s receiving blankets. I never crocheted again, though I have no idea why.
I kept finding pretty patterns on Pinterest, and I found a pattern book for Amigurumi animals and I decided I had to learn to crochet properly so I could follow the patterns.
My first attempt at a granny square… This and several afterwards were round every time!
Trying different stitches while learning to manage my tension and watching YouTube tutorials…
Getting better at Granny Squares…
Another kind of stitch I’m practising
Then I gave up on granny squares for a while and started doing circles. That definitely helped me get better at the tension and the proper grip on my wool and my hook…
And then I made a few more granny squares and what do you know – they’re square!
The hand cramps might just kill me though…
On the hunt for blog fodder I remembered there are a few things I’ve been telling people about, and raving about, and if that’s not blog fodder -what is!?
I am loving the new Colgate Plax for sensitive teeth! Its fantastic! It doesn’t feel like it burns in my mouth like regular plax, and its alcohol free.
Annique Resque Zeroache+ and Annique Resque Crème.
The Zeroache+ provides temporary relief for everything from muscular aches and stiff joints to headaches and a sore throat! My sister discovered it after her spinal fusion surgery and now we’re all using it!
The Crème is the only thing that has so far soothed my itchy and cracked knuckles! Its made to helps to effectively relieve irritated and itchy skin and its safe for children and babies.
In winter, when I am doing sugar work for cake decorating, I wash my hands a lot. Between colours, between finished pieces… I wash my hands so much that my knuckles and the sides of my hands are raw, itchy and sore. So much so that it keeps me awake at night, and in the morning my hands are swollen from scratching in my sleep! This Crème actually soothes it like nothing else I’ve tried does!
~~ As per my Ladybloggers pledge, and in case you were wondering – nobody at Annique, Colgate,
their advertising or PR companies had anything to do with this blog post. ~~
