Another Fantastical Weekend!

Friday night Damien was at school for a LAN night, so my Glugs and I decided to make the most of it and turned it into a date night. He took me to an exquisite Greek restaurant with the French name Byzance. The décor was simply blogger heaven I tell you (photos on my photo blog) and the food was magic! We started by sharing a cheese platter, and then I had duck (for the first time), saffron-fig duck no less, served with fresh cooked veggies, pumpkin and mashed potato. It was divine! Glugs had a seafood mousaka- with shrimp, calamari, linefish, potato & aubergine. I’ve never had mousaka- it looked a little like a quiche. Glugs enjoyed it thoroughly. Sadly we were both too full for dessert…

On Saturday, we were up at sparrow fart to fetch the knucklehead from the LAN party, and then when we got home we were pretty much wide awake. I downloaded my emails and played online a bit, then my Glugs and I watched some more Stargate before dozing off again. We woke up a little later to have some lunch and I left the knucklehead to sleep off his LAN till about 2pm.
At 3pm on Saturday we headed for The Spires for an outride. My Glugs had never been and was understandably nervous… but he got a wonderful friesian named King Arthur, aka Mr Beefy, who was a dream to ride! I rode a chestnut pony, belonging to my friend M, named BillyB and Damien rode another of M’s horses named Redwing. My friend M rode her own friesian saddler cross named Feiko. He’s simply gorgeous!! We kept our ride down to an hour- which was perfect as I hadn’t ridden in an age and it was Glugs’ first time. We had a blast and we’ll probably be back sometime (photos of this adventure also on my photoblog).
After the ride, we all crashed- and when my Glugs woke me up in the afternoon I was totally non-compos-mentos so my Glugs played computer games and left me to sleep ALL NIGHT!!!

Read my next post to hear about the first BlogGirls lunch!!

Horses and Electricity and Towels And Lunches…

Today is “Towel Day” in memory and in honour of Douglas Adams‘ series of books, starting with The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy, so don’t forget to take yours everywhere with you today as its really an incredibly useful thing to have on your person. I have read this particular collection of stories five or six tmes and I laugh myself stupid every single time! Highly recommended bunnies.

On Friday night Damien had a LAN at school so my Glugs and I had a date night- at Byzance no less! Pictures and details to follow of course…

And yesterday we went for a bit of an outride- details and pictures to follow later…

And today its the first BlogGirls lunch! I can’t wait- Sweets and I are going together and we’re meeting other SA bloggers!! Awesome way to spend a Sunday afternoon I reckon. It will mean missing the Monaco F1 grand prix- but my Glugs has said he’ll record it for me. Or perhaps Tamara and I can watch it at ‘Nde Bush after the BlogGirls lunch…?
We’ll see.

Death To Spambots And Other Weekend News…

Today is mine and the Glugster’s second monthiversary! Sheesh can you believe how time flies bunnies!!! In truth- it feels much longer. And without getting too lewd and lascivious… let me just say that I can NOT get enough of him!!! And yes I know its still early days… but I’m loving it!

On Saturday Glugs and I were exceptionally lazy… we napped and snacked and watched TV all day. Damien had his PS2 with him and played “Ghostrider” all weekend! Heavenly… then yesterday we went to braai at my sister C’s place with da Bruvva and my nephew N. The Glugster got a chicken tour of a difference in seeing sister C’s significant other’s show roosters… we ate really well, and went up to the horse slash game farm where Damien and I used to ride to say goodbye to our old “friends”, and of course there are pictures that I’ll post later.

And I must just warn you all- I am AGAIN having connection crap at home so I am SO very behind on my reading and commenting… and VodaKak is blaming everything from EsKak to the rain for my troubles without actually helping me with anything. I miss you all dreadfully and I’ll get back up to speed as soon as I can!! There’s good news too- I am getting a new laptop!!! An awesomely spectacularly yummy HP Pavilion dv9500!!! I had my grubby little paws on it this morning and I’ll be spending the next week or so installing drivers and programs and all that fun stuff. I had a minor panic attack when I discovered my new toy had an express card slot i.s.o. a datacard slot- but I am due to upgrade and renew my 3G account at the end of February so I’ll be getting an expresscard with my upgrade. I’m also busy transferring data off of my current notebook to make sure I don’t lose anything.

In other news- believe it or not- my BLOG was being spammed bunnies!!! Anyone notice the freaky posts that appeared this morning (thanx for the head’s up babe…)? You see, Blogger gives you the option to email posts and pictures and even videos straight to your blog- and I have been using this option for well over two years as my client’s server doesn’t always allow me access to my blog. Then last week I noticed a freaky post or two saved as drafts on my nephew’s blog. I deleted them, thinking maybe one of the other contributors to his fan club had sent them by accident. Then I got an odd post on my own blog, which I deleted thinking it may be spam, but not worrying about it terribly. And then this morning the dreaded spambots struck again. TWO spam posts!!! I deleted both, and I have now changed the email address I use to post via email. But I’m going to keep an eye on it as this is now clearly not as “safe” an option as it used to be…

My granny darling is out of surgery and into ICU… there’s still a looong recovery road ahead of her- but so far it seems as if everything went well.

Finally, The Weekend Post- As Promised!

It was entertaining and it was exhausting- I need a week off to recover!
My mommy and daddy darling took Damien, my granny darling, and I to the airport- with a suitcase each, not bad eh? We had arranged for a wheelchair to help granny darling at the airport- lots of walking and standing are not her strong points. Sadly, despite trying to make things as smooth and convenient for my granny darling as possible- she panics very easily and didn’t sleep at all the night before we flew, sadly- even though we flew rather than drove- I think this will be the last time she travels anywhere…
The plane trip was spectacular! I haven’t flown in twenty something years; and this was Damien’s first ever flight- and both of us spent the entire trip leaning as far over as the inch thick window would allow us to do! I tried to take pictures, but the glass is thick and distorts things a wee bit… we even got a sandwich and a cold drink each, which I didn’t expect on such a short flight.
Landing at such a tiny airport was a little strange- as was flying in a small prop plane- but very entertaining! And freezing! There was lots of snow on the mountains all around us and the wind blowing off them was icy, to put it mildly. Of course- being a farming area there were LOTS of horses around, which I always love. My aunt has two horses and the one farm she manages has four of them as well as a herd of Nguni cows- which was very cool to see. Damien and I also saw some spectacular bird life- jackal buzzards, a crowned eagle, a secretary bird and a gymnogene! We were very busy too- I watched “The Queen” with my granny darling, Damien went fishing and horse riding… in fact I barely saw him the four days we were there! Damien spent his time outside walking, drawing, bird watching, going to work with my uncle and smoking, tee-hee. I baked cookies with my cousin K (who is also my god daughter), we drove around to see the firestorm devastation, I went shopping with my aunt a coupla times, we watched LOTR 1 and 2 and of course I ate waaaay too much for my own good…
Here’s a description of the pictures from the last post is as follows, from top to bottom…
1. Damien boarding the plane- he was looking and smiling at me… till the silly tart got in the way!
2. Damien belted into his seat and waiting for takeoff
3. the clouds from Damien’s window
4. the snow bedecked Drakensberg out of my window

Pop Round To SA Parent Life and check out what my mommy darling wrote and emailed to me!!! I have had a lump in my throat all afternoon!
My Mommy Darling gave me a new dragon for my collection! Its adorable- and I so wish my camera worked… as soon as I can I’ll show you a picture- her tail and wings are a glittery purple and her back is sparkly green. She’s holding a “fairy tale dragon” story book.
Greebo has taken to curling up between the arm of the couch my laptop- where it’s warm!
Taxi has suddenly decided he likes snuggling up on my lap! He’s never done that!
Grampa Scratchy is the same- still doesn’t come out of my bedroom- but I’m going to have to start keeping an eye on him, he’s getting fat- older cats have a tendency to make a huge deal over mealtimes and do little else!
I’m Still Sore but now it’s my legs rather than my backside! The bruise on the side of my calf has already faded but my inner thighs and the base of my ribs feels like they should be black and blue!
The Yummy Dish from the weekend is still on my mind- but less- and I’m trying hard not to let my inner adolescent take over again.
I’m Reading an immensely interesting book called “Fingerprints of The Gods” and it’s absolutely fascinating! The author talks about everything from the Olmecs to the Pyramids but he doesn’t speculate on where they went! Its fascinating!
